Join fellow Engineering Club members for a tour of the National Building Arts Center in Sauget, Illinois, located on the site of a former electric steel foundry. The National Building Arts Center houses the country's largest collection of architectural artifacts. Located in the historic Sterling Steel Casting Company Foundry, the site interprets the history of building in St. Louis and beyond.  See examples of historic building materials including terracotta, stone, iron, and transite and learn how they were installed, supported, and removed. See examples of steel construction details that succeeded and examples that failed. Learn about electric steel casting. Visit a metering and regulating station for an interstate gas pipeline. See other equipment including an elevator cab, ceramic insulators from a utility-scale power plant, and Magne-Blast circuit breakers. Plan to walk in mud and on uneven surfaces.

Please note that this tour covers a 13-acre industrial site that is still early in its journey to become a museum. Expect uneven surfaces including one step up, and whatever the weather has to throw at us. Come prepared to cover some ground with sensible footwear.
